At OE, the safety and well-being of our employees, customers, and communities is our first priority and passion. Our dedication to health and safety is a core value that underpins the exceptional service we strive to deliver. We constantly evolve, enhancing our practices to align with the most current safety standards and ensuring your peace of mind is always top of our mind.
We invest in our people from day one, starting with a comprehensive 2-day onboarding program that immerses new employees in our culture of safety. This is complemented by a minimum of one month of hands-on training under the guidance of experienced trainers, ensuring proficiency in safe work practices.
Our ongoing education efforts include mandatory online training, educational safety moments and alerts to keep our team vigilant.
Our Leadership Team convenes every day to review business activities and safety incidents. This proactive approach ensures open communication and swift action on safety concerns, reinforcing our commitment to a zero-incident workplace.
We provide our field employees with all necessary protective work clothing (PPE), seasonal adaptations and other required safety gear and equipment.
OE proudly holds a COR 2020 certification in Ontario and an ISO 45001 international standard.
We are recognized as a Safe Employer as part of the Supporting Ontario’s Safe Employers program (SOSE). These certifications represent our commitment to excellence in preventing work-related injuries and illnesses and maintaining safe and healthy work environments.
Our health and safety programs have undergone rigorous evaluations by external and internal auditors, consistently meeting or surpassing the stringent criteria.
Before any work begins, our crews conduct thorough Job Site Safety Assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards pre-emptively. Additionally, all our executives, managers and supervisors perform random job site and equipment safety audits to evaluate the performance of our field crew and equipment. We do this to uphold our high standards and ensure compliance with our standard work procedures across the business.
Utilizing a smartphone application and a point rating system, these audits provide valuable insights and are systematically reviewed with our frontline Leadership Team every month. This year, we have successfully documented over 300 audits, reflecting our continuous efforts to enhance safety.
We are early and active promoters and contributors of safe work practices with the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) and the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA).
We were a founding member and first chair of Hydrovac Alliance of Ontario (HVAO), an advocate for industry best practices for safe work on buried underground infrastructure.
